Nanosonics recently sponsored the CPD-accredited Advancing Ultrasound Probe Decontamination Study Day. Held on September 26, 2023, in Dublin, this event was a resounding success. It was a sold-out, complimentary gathering, bringing together healthcare professionals eager to explore the latest breakthroughs and best practices in ultrasound probe decontamination.
The Study Day was designed to help improve the safety of patients, clinics, their staff, and the environment by promoting the best practice of decontamination of ultrasound probes and the way infection prevention practices are understood and conducted. As well as showcasing new innovations that help to deliver improved standards of care.
The morning session was filled with engaging talks delivered by industry experts:
- Decontamination – A Sonographer’s Perspective: Presented by Neil Kearns, Clinical Specialist Radiographer (Ultrasound) at University Hospital Limerick, providing a unique viewpoint on the subject.
- Building an Ultrasound Probe Infection Prevention Toolkit: Presented by Niamh O’Callaghan, Sterile CSSD Manager & Decon lead CNM at South Infirmary Cork Hospital, offering insights into constructing a robust toolkit.
- Implementing an Ultrasound Infection Prevention Toolkit: Jincy Jerry, Assistant Director of Nursing, IPC, Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, Dublin, shared her expertise in toolkit implementation.
- Rotunda’s Journey and Experience Transitioning to Automated HLD: Funmi Idowu, Decontamination Lead at Rotunda Hospital, Dublin, shared her hospital's transformational journey towards automated high-level disinfection.
The second half of the day was dedicated to interactive workshops and round table discussions, allowing delegates to delve deeper into the practical aspects of ultrasound probe reprocessing.
